Open House 2016!

Yesterday, our whole school had Open House. Open House is when you and your family come to school to see all the projects you accomplished through-out the year. Our class had many things on display. For example, our Badger Claws Journal, our diorama of the famous people we chose to be, our digital portfolio, and even a paper portfolio. Isn't that a myriad of things? Well, I think it is! I hope you enjoyed our Open House! Down below are the many projects we did.

Camp Surf

A few days ago, my dad and I went to surf camp. We went with a group of friends. I have been camping since I was seven, and I absolutely adore it. There was a plethora of activities including: surfing, body boarding, archery, arts and crafts, and a climbing wall. I made it all the way to the top of the climbing wall, but it was very difficult. I did all the activities except for arts and crafts because I didn’t have time to fit it all in.

The funny part about this camping trip was when one of the dads lost his car keys. Can you imagine losing your car keys while camping at the beach? What would you do? Well, we called AAA and they made the dad a new set of car keys. The interesting part of this is that AAA never checked if he was the actual owner of the car! That’s like the easiest way to steal a car (not like I would steal one!).

Have you ever been camping?

If so, what did you do?

Hot Dog Charlie

I love writing, and here is short story I wrote about a dog named Charlie and his owner, Ruby. It is an eerie adventure Charlie had on Halloween dressed as a hot dog. The original picture of Charlie in the adorable hot dog costume can be found on my teacher's Photo-of-the-Day blog.

“This costume is terrible!” Charlie whined as he struggled to put his front leg through his costume. “I don’t think this Halloween costume is that comfortable. I would rather be a doggie bone for Halloween, or what would have been even better is to eat a doggie bone!”

As Charlie finally fit his leg in his costume, he raced out the back door and Ruby didn't even notice! He did this because he was a little bit mad at her. He was mad at her because she forced him to put on that itchy, uncomfortable, and unpleasant costume.

A little bit later, Charlie could not see his own house anymore. “I am very hungry, and I want something to eat,” Charlie grumbled as he walked down the dark sidewalk. The wind was blowing hard, and Charlie was tired and cold. He stopped to rest under an enormous oak tree, but when he looked closer and examined the bark he realized that there was actually a small hidden latch under a leaf.

“What's this?” he asked to no one in particular. He pulled the creaky door open and stepped inside.

Inside was a dark staircase winding and twisting its way into the dark abyss. Charlie made his way cautiously down the staircase. There was an eerie sound coming from the bottom of the stairs.

“This place is really creepy,” Charlie mumbled in a frightened voice. “I wish I was in my own snug bed at home, with my darling owner, Ruby.”

But it was too late to turn back so, Charlie kept at it until he was at the bottom. When Charlie reached the base of the stairs there were two gigantic oak doors which Charlie pushed open. Inside was a big forest with lanterns dangling every few feet. There were thick vines that held the lanterns up so they would stay suspended. There was also a waterfall which led to a clear blue river that was lazily making its way into a dark cave.

“This place is magnificent and beautiful. Who built this?” Charlie asked amazed. He was about to wander farther into the deep dark forest, but he heard a soft pleading voice in the distance calling, “Charlie, Charlie! Where are you? We are about to go trick-or-treating! Come here, Charlie!”

Charlie felt badly. He wanted to make Ruby happy, but he also wanted to go venture out into the creepy, yet mystical dark woods. Charlie thought this over for a few minutes and finally decided to go and find Ruby. He thought, “I can always come back.”

He sprinted up the staircase and pushed the door open. Then Charlie ran home as fast as his little legs could carry him. Charlie hoped that they had not left already.

When he finally trotted in the kitchen Charlie was out of breath. “I a….m her....e R...ub..y,” Charlie panted. Then he looked up at her, and she quickly snapped a picture of him.

If this were a book, the next chapter would start like this.

The next day Charlie returned to the mysterious tree. “I can’t wait to see what is in that forest!” Charlie squealed excitedly. He looked for the latch for the next few minutes but he couldn't find it anymore.

(Mrs. Yollis was so impressed with my vocabulary, she bolded many high level words!)

What was your favorite part about my story?

What do you think I should write about in the next chapter?
